Spanish Open continues without Jon Rahm
The 2026 Open de España began on October 8 at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid without Jon Rahm. The tournament runs through October 11 and remains part of the DP World Tour schedule.
Organizers had previously announced Rahm as a featured competitor, only to confirm his withdrawal on October 6. The championship continued with international golfers and Spanish players competing for the national title in Madrid.
Rahm ends consecutive Spanish Open run
Jon Rahm competed in every Open de España held from 2018 through 2025, beginning with his tournament debut in 2018. The championship was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rahm made 7 consecutive appearances in editions that took place during that period. His withdrawal in October 2026 ended that participation streak, which included 3 victories and a runner-up finish in 2024.
Rahm matches Ballesteros with 3 titles
Jon Rahm has won the Open de España 3 times, matching Seve Ballesteros for the most victories since the tournament joined the European Tour in 1972. Rahm won in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
Ángel de la Torre holds the overall championship record with 5 victories between 1916 and 1925. Rahm’s October 2026 withdrawal means his pursuit of a fourth Spanish Open title must wait.
Rahm rejects proposed LIV Golf relaunch
Jon Rahm’s attorney, John Beck, told a bankruptcy court on October 7, 2026, that the Spanish golfer would not participate in LIV Golf’s proposed restructuring. Rahm had reviewed the revised participation terms.
Beck said Rahm found the proposed LIV 2.0 agreement unacceptable. The announcement followed 3 seasons in which Rahm won the league’s individual championship each year, beginning with his debut season in 2024.

LIV Golf faces financial restructuring
LIV Golf entered bankruptcy proceedings while seeking a new financial structure for its future competitions. The league previously received major financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which planned to withdraw funding.
The proposed restructuring includes up to $300 million in financing from BC Partners, subject to court approval. LIV is also exploring a model that would offer players ownership stakes in the reorganized league.
Rahm completes 3 LIV Golf title seasons
Jon Rahm won 3 consecutive LIV Golf individual season championships after joining the league in December 2023. His latest season title came in 2026, extending his record of success on the circuit.

Rahm faces DP World Tour requirements
Jon Rahm agreed to a conditional arrangement with the DP World Tour in May 2026, allowing him to continue competing in LIV Golf events without additional penalties during the season under specified conditions.
Reports indicate that Rahm must complete 5 DP World Tour appearances under that arrangement. He had played 3 before withdrawing from Madrid, leaving 2 appearances to fulfill the reported requirement.
Rahm considers November tour events
Jon Rahm is expected to compete in the DP World Tour’s season-ending tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai during November 2026. Those appearances could help him complete his remaining participation requirements.
His participation in Dubai depends on meeting the tournament’s qualification requirements, including his Race to Dubai standing. The Abu Dhabi event could therefore become important for securing his place in the season finale.
Rahm’s PGA Tour return remains uncertain
Jon Rahm’s decision not to join LIV Golf’s proposed 2027 relaunch raises questions about his next professional destination. The former world No. 1 has not announced an agreement to return to the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour introduced a limited Returning Member Program in January 2026, but Rahm did not accept that opportunity. His future eligibility would depend on applicable Tour rules and any subsequent arrangements.
